Trees might look beautiful and they are essential to a healthy environment, but they can cause big problems with your sewer line. Sewer cleaning with regular inspections of the pipes is vital if you have lots of trees growing in your yard, as trees like the loose soil and backfill around pipes. Any breaks in the pipe can give tree roots an easy entry and then they just proliferate throughout, causing blockages. Using a sewer inspection CCTV camera, we can locate any breaks or roots in your pipes, but prevention is always the best strategy. So avoid planting trees within 3 meters of your sewer lines, particularly Fig Trees, Rubber Plants, Poplars, large Gum Trees, Jacarandas and Casuarinas.
Sewer drain cleaning is a nasty job and some things just shouldn’t be flushed down toilets. Items such as feminine hygiene products and personal wipes, for instance, can be discarded safely elsewhere. Other items such as shoes, toys, cotton balls, paper towels, disposable nappies and cat litter, as well as oil, grease and fats, should not be flushed down the toilet. The only "foreign object" you should be flushing down the toilet is toilet paper. If you know your toilet is blocked, we recommend drainage cleaning.
Your first port of call is a plumber who can locate the blockage using a sewer camera. If the blockage is on your private land, then you are responsible for the costs of fixing the problem. On the other hand, if the blockage is on council-owned land, then the council may pay all or some of the costs.
