Running out of hot water? Read our short guide on buying a hot water heater.

If your hot water heater can’t cope with the demands of your family or it has simply stopped working altogether, it is time to buy a new system. The problem is that there are so many different hot water systems on the market, you can become overwhelmed with so many choices. So here are three easy steps to making the right decision for your family.

Select the type of hot water heater

Today we have gas, electric and solar, but you can also install a heat pump, an instantaneous system and a gas boosted solar hot water system. If you are short on money, it is sometimes easier to go with your current system, so if you have an electric hot water heater, simply replace it with a new model.

If you are concerned about the environment and want to reduce your electric hot water power bill, then you can opt for a solar system or a heat pump. On the other hand, you could switch over to gas for instant hot water and treat yourself to a gas stove at the same time.

Decide on the size of the hot water system

Always install a hot water heater that is at least appropriate for the size of the property. For example, a couple doesn’t need as much hot water as a family with 5 kids, so they could install a smaller hot water system. The problem is that a 4 bedroom house needs sufficient hot water for at least a family of four and when you sell your property at a later date, a buyer will not be happy about having to upgrade a small hot water heater.

Best place to purchase your hot water heater?

One of the best ways to decide on the right type and size of hot water system you need for your family is to talk to your local plumber. At Rhino Plumbing, we help you make the right decisions for your budget and we have a range of top brands we can install for you ASAP.
